Every piece begins with a fabric and a hand. Long before we sketch a silhouette, we choose the craft that will carry it: techniques passed down through generations across South Asia, brought into the modern modest wardrobe.

Made by hand, close to home

The embroidery on our pieces is done in our own atelier, by a team who works alongside Shehna every day. Much of our block printing is done by Shehna herself, pressed by hand, so every repeat carries a small trace of the person who made it. Most of our handloom fabrics are bought directly from the weavers who make them, so we know where each fabric comes from and whose hands wove it.

The crafts

Chikankari. Delicate shadow embroidery from Lucknow, traditionally stitched white on white. Worked by hand, it gives fabric a soft, living texture that reveals itself up close.

Block printing. Patterns pressed onto fabric by hand, one block at a time. Small shifts in colour and alignment are part of its beauty, and a sign that no machine was involved.

Chanderi. A lightweight, sheer weave from central India, known for its subtle sheen. It drapes beautifully and stays cool, which makes it ideal for layering in warm climates.

Kasavu. The handwoven fabric of Kerala, recognised by its fine gold border. Quiet, luminous and ceremonial.

Kantha. A running-stitch tradition from Bengal, where layers of cloth are stitched together by hand. Every line is slightly different, so no two pieces are ever the same.

Banarasi. Rich brocade from Varanasi, woven with intricate motifs and metallic threads. We use it in panels and accents, so it carries a garment without overwhelming it.

Khadi. Handspun and handwoven, it breathes easily and grows softer with every wear.

Our materials

We choose fabrics for how they feel as much as how they look.

Linen came into our work through a personal story. When Shehna's son developed severe eczema, she began questioning the synthetic fabrics around her family. Linen breathes, softens with time and suits the climate we live in.

Silk in its raw, Moga and fluid forms appears across our occasion pieces for its depth of colour and natural drape.

Crêpe gives structure and an easy, wrinkle-resistant fall for everyday wear, and organza adds lightness and dimension.

Caring for your piece

Because every design brings together different fabrics and techniques, care varies from piece to piece. You will find specific care instructions on each product page. A few principles apply to everything we make:

• When in doubt, choose gentle dry cleaning, especially for silk, zari and heavily embroidered pieces.
• Never wring or twist handwoven or embroidered fabric.
• Steam, or iron on the reverse at low heat. Never iron directly over embroidery or metallic thread.
• Store folded in a breathable cotton bag, away from direct sunlight and damp.
• Apply perfume before dressing, and keep it away from silk and zari.
